The Lions Trust
Overview & Mission Statement
The Lions Trust is the official charitable foundation of the British & Irish Lions and was formally established by the Lions Committee in 2002. The founding Chairman of the Lions Trust was Dr. Syd Millar, who is currently Chairman of the International Rugby Board (IRB).
The Lions Trust was established to address the welfare of former touring players who have contributed to the great history and special heritage of the Lions, but who may have not benefited from adequate injury and health protections.
The Lions Trust aims to lend assistance to former players who may be experiencing genuine hardship as a result of medical & health problems or injury & disability or other adverse after-affects following their rugby playing careers.
The Lions Trust is overseen and administered by Committee appointed Trustees, in conjunction with a representative of British Lions Ltd, the commercial arm of the British & Irish Lions and the Lions Committee.
The Trustees are all former Lions and are drawn from the rugby union territories which comprise the British & Irish Lions:
Ian McLauchlan (Chairman, Scotland)
Mike Weston (England)
Tom Kiernan (Ireland)
Gerald Davies (Wales)
Dr. Syd Millar (British Lions Ltd)
